An ambitious goal: To become the definitive online directory for automotive services in the Greater Toronto Area
The Challenge
OnlyAuto set out with an ambitious goal: to become the definitive online directory for automotive services in the Greater Toronto Area. From tire shops and mechanics to detailing specialists and performance tuners, the platform needed to represent the full spectrum of the region’s automotive businesses — and make them easy to discover, navigate, and connect with. The challenge wasn’t just building a directory — it was building trust in a brand-new platform from day one.
To succeed, OnlyAuto needed more than a list of businesses. It needed a dynamic, searchable portal that was both helpful to consumers and valuable to service providers. That meant clear, accurate business profiles, intuitive filtering by location and service type, and a seamless mobile experience for users on the go. It also meant creating a platform that felt credible, polished, and distinctly local — not just another generic listing site.
Search functionality was a core challenge. Many users would arrive without knowing exactly what they were looking for, or how to phrase it. The platform needed to make it easy for users to browse by category, location, or service type. The directory relied on clear navigation, consistent labeling, and intuitive design to help users find what they needed without friction.
Equally important was the onboarding experience for automotive business owners. The OnlyAuto team wanted these businesses to feel empowered, not burdened — so the profile setup process had to be simple, guided, and flexible. Business owners needed to be able to easily add service information, photos, and contact details, while also managing updates over time without technical support.
Brand perception was another key hurdle. Entering a crowded space of directories and local search tools, OnlyAuto had to stand out visually and functionally. It had to look sharp, feel intuitive, and convey immediate credibility — all while keeping the focus on the businesses it aimed to spotlight.
Ultimately, the challenge was to build a platform that balanced two very different user journeys: one for everyday drivers trying to find the right shop, and another for business owners trying to grow their presence. The solution had to work for both — and leave a strong first impression in a highly competitive space.
